St. John's in Joplin to be fully evacuated due to extensive tornado damage | Springfield News-Leader | News-Leader.com

St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin is being fully evacuated, after the hospital was directly hit by a tornado Sunday afternoon, said Cora Scott, spokeswoman for St. John’s Health System in Springfield.

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced his candidacy for president a day early on Sunday in a video posted on his website.

The Republican said he would begin his campaign Monday in Iowa.

JOPLIN, Missouri -- A tornado has touched down in Joplin, reportedly damaging several businesses including a hospital.

The hospital may taken a direct hit, say reports from local media in the area.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has shut down I-44 just outside of Miami because of overturned vehicles and debris on the highway.
